Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and fellow music lovers, it is our esteemed honor to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to an artiste who has left an indelible mark on the Ghanaian music industry and has equally left unforgettable memories on our minds.
Tonight, we’re here to celebrate music and also to celebrate the remarkable career and enduring legacy of the legend that is Abranti3 Amakye Dede.
Growing up in a family of music enthusiasts, Amakye Dede was surrounded by traditional Ghanaian music right from his early days.
His career began in 1973 when he joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and a vocalist. The renowned Highlife band, led by Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA), one of Ghana’s Highlife legends, produced classic hits such as Abebi Bewua Eso, Wanware Me A, Odo Mani Agyina and Ohohoo Batani.
It was around this time that Amakye Dede, lovingly referred to as ‘Iron Boy’ or ‘Abrantie’ (which translates to Gentleman), earned these names while working on his debut record alongside his mentor, Akwasi Ampofo Agyei.
Somewhere between the late 70s and 80s, Amakye’s debut album titled “Jealousy” was released. It marked the beginning of his successful career in the music industry.
Amakye Dede has consistently and persistently pushed boundaries, defied genres and inspired generations. His trailblazing work has yielded notable achievements such as the prestigious Kora Music Awards in South Africa and ECRAG Band of The Year awards.
Amakye Dede has churned out some sixteen ground breaking yet popular hit albums, garnered some national music awards and toured practically all of Ghana, most of Nigeria and also staged live shows in USA, UK, Germany, Switzerland and several African countries in a 1,300 gig-spree.
Abrantie Amakye Dede’s musical repertoire is a testament to his talent and enduring impact in the world of music.
Through his dedication, innovation, and passion, Amakye Dede has left an indelible mark on the music industry here in Ghana and the music world at large.
